‘Soo-sok’ Series, since 1990

This work has been done with a Korean traditional technique ‘Jumtchi’ which is used with for the Korean paper to obtain this strong quality, as solid as the leather.

The process starts by plunging in the water 2 sheets of paper together, and after that by beating them regularly with the hands, following a vertical line, a horizontal one or a free line with some song. Each moment gives me peace fin my sprit and my body.

This abstract figure comes by the acceptation of the external elements like ’Soo-Sok’ where the form is the result of the natural movement of water during thousand and thousand years.
Sometimes appears a form like the one of a man who seems to pray or sometime a form like a silhouette of a meditative man.

My work with Korean paper is a request for the life, since it begins like a little soft sculpture, but this work ’Soo-Sok 0716’ develops the communication between the tradition and the contemporary world, by juxtaposing two different materials. Korean paper coming from the tradition and Korean electronic plaque, symbolic of the new Korea.2007
